What is the best music theory book for me (a guitarist)?

I am a guitarist with VERY minor skills. My learning has been all over the place and I still can't play at all. I picked up a copy of Guitar World's Metallica edition a few days ago. In it, the band members use a lot of words that I just don't understand; like "modes" and "dorian". I was annoyed. I've bought a number of books claiming to be good guitar learning tools, but I am constantly running into terms and ideas that just aren't covered.

I'm not against hard work. If there is a book or website out there that gos over ALL the elements of musical theory without requiring prior knowledge I am willing to sit down and absorb all of it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

No offense dude but you are trying to run instead of walking. It''s good to try and advance quickly as long as you understand the basics.

Get a beginners book from Mel Bay and do one lesson a week. You will improve in no time as long as you follow the lessons. The lessons are well written and very well explained and comes with a DVD if you want.
