Information On Drill Bits For Metal For The DIY Aficionado

When it comes to drilling holes into hard materials as wood, plastic or metal, the power tool used is called a drill. Drills are the machinery used to make the holes but for the purpose of this article I will be giving you information on drill bits for metal. What are drill bits for metal? A cutting device which resembles a nail, fastened to the end of a drill.

The drill bit chosen for the drill is picked based on what type of material is been used to drill into. If you are needing to make a hole into the surface of a piece of wood you would use a certain type of drill bit and for metal, drill bits for metal and so forth. The construction of drill bits for metal

Drill bits for metal as I have previously mentioned, resemble a nail with a thread minus the nail head. The one end of the drill bit has a shank (this is the part which is fitted into the drill), while the other side is called the cutting edge. This type of drill bit is called a twist type drill bit.

Drill bits for metal come in sizes ranging from 0.8- 89mm and can reach lengths of  650 mm. Drill bits for metal are made from High- Speed- Steel (HSS).

The cutting edge has various angled split point tips. Drill bits which do not have the appropriate angel suited to the metal will be able to cut a perfect hole, the drill bit angel needs to be correct. A wider angel is used on harder materials while a smaller angel is used to drill through soft material. A good all round drill bit for steel has an angel of 135°. The most common drill which can be used on other materials as well as an angel of 118°, but do not deliver the greatest results.

If your drill bit for metal becomes blunt you can sharpen it using a drill sharpener or a grind stone jig. If you want to sharpen your titanium drill bit then you must know that it cannot be sharpened without destroying the titanium material.

Coating for drill bits.

In order for drill bits for metal to last longer they need to be coated. The coating makes them less resistant to corrosion. There are different type of coating one of the most popular being Titanium.

The motive Titanium coating is so sort after is due to the fact that the material is very hard and can extend the usage of the drill bit by 6 times. They also reduce the friction on the material surface caused by drilling process. Titanium drill bits cannot be sharpened.

Black Oxide drill bit.

Black oxide a black coating although cheaper than a drill bit with a Titanium coating also extends the usage of the drill bit. It is heat resistant and also provides for less friction.

What to know about guitar strings?

Well i've been playing electric guitar for about 6 months now and gotten pretty good at it. But yesterday i broke my 1st string which lashed me quite well in the face =[. Anyhowww...so i go online to search for some strings. I have a Fender Strat HSS and i searched and searched and decided to get some Fender Bullet strings. Now I have absolutly NO IDEA what to buy tho. like i know the .11 thing is the guage? but i also see stuff like 3350's,3350'sM, 3350's XL and so on. Basically i just want to have a clue on what im actually looking at here and advice as to which strings I should get. I want the same strings my Strat already has but like a size thicker. the factory is .009 i think? and yea I have my eyes on Stainless Bullets™: Stainless Steel Bullet End [3350s]. So please any advice and also advice on like should i change string height,length and such? is that called intonation or somethin? well anyway Thanks for the help

A Strat would be delivered with .009 or maybe .010 Fender strings from the factory.

Try different types from different brands to figure out which you like best.
