what is better a guitar with humbucker and single coils or a guitar with coil tapped humbuckers?
I have a guitar with humbuckers and a guitar with single coil pick ups, the one I play is determined by the type of music I am playing. I like the tone of humbuckers for blues and metal and some types of rock but I like the tone of single coils for ska and jazz and surfer rock. I was wondering if it is better to get a guitar with a hss configuration or a guitar with coil tapped humbuckers. which is better and why?
Just a word of advice that might help.... humbuckers can definately sound great, but... they also have a tendancy to feed back more than you want.. if you play a lot of songs with stops and rests in them. You can still get feedback from single coils, but the sound (to me) seems much cleaner and easier to controll. I have seymour duncan hotrails in the neck and mid, and a JB jr. in the bridge on an esp vintage plus. They are supposed to give you some of the benifits of humbucker, with the advantage of single coil cleanlyness. The best of both worlds!
