Writing A List And I'm Checking It Twice...
It's now not very long until Christmas and from what I can work out, Santa isn't the one writing the gift lists that's my job! This year it looks as if I will be buying a lot of electrical goods. At least none of them take batteries - the scramble for AAA's on the big day is enough to drive the sanest mother to breakdown in tears in the corner!
Since my husband recently switched careers to go into graphic design, he has wanted to upgrade from a PC to a more suitable Macbook for a very long time but his money situation has not allowed him to do so. Well, unbeknown to him, I have been saving throughout the year and I now plan to purchase him one for Christmas as a surprise. At almost £900, he'd better look after it! I'd buy one for myself too if I could afford it! I'm very jealous but I know he will love his present.
"My" Christmas treat (it actually benefits everyone) I plan to pick out one of the cheap Hotpoint fridges as ours is really knackered at this point. It makes sense for us to get hold of a replacement before Christmas since the holiday period revolves around food and we obviously want to keep ours as fresh and tasty as possible.
Much less costly electrical items that are also on the Christmas list include hair accessories for my daughter. Not only does she want a new set of hair straighteners (she manages to break them so quickly!) but she also wants me to pick out an "ionic" dryer amongst the huge collection of hair dryers at the store. Hopefully one of the shop floor assistants will be able to point me in the right direction. I also promised my son a new facial shaver since he really hates wet shaving his sensitive skin.
Can I plug a Sun V100 straight into a normal power point?
I have been given a server that I wish to play with to learn how to set them up and use unix etc. At work they have special power systems. If I just plug it into a normal household power point will I risk damaging the server or anything?
If it has the same power requirements as your domestic power point can provide, it should work.
Most commercial power systems have the same domestic voltages as your home, but isolate the earth terminal from the building structure, except at the electric service entrance.
