Getting better reception out of my ol' transistor radio? Help?
I have a Holiday AM/FM transistor radio. I live in Ottawa and am trying to get a reception from an AM radio station in Toronto. Sometimes I am able to get it (only at night), but most of the time it fades out really quickly and then I have to find it again.. after a while it gets quite frustrating.
At the moment, there is a coat hanger taped to the antenna, with a piece of tin foil attached to that, pointing up. There is also a small (1 cm high) key chain attached to the coat hanger - when the singal fades, it sometimes comes back when i tap this little trinket. Without all that, there is no signal what-so-ever.
What can I do to get a better reception?
The AM antenna is actually inside the radio. The one you're messing with is only for FM and will have no effect. It's a matter of finding the best place. Turning the radio will also help. Otherwise you'll have to open it up.
